PMBOK® Guide stands for A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge. It is a globally recognized standard developed by the Project Management Institute (PMI)®, and deals with the fundamental principles and terminology relating to project management. It is used by project managers in many different countries and in many different industries.

The PMBOK® Guide is designed to provide a set of guidelines, terminology and processes that can be regarded as the generally accepted project management standards. It is also designed to be relevant and applicable to all types of projects across all industries. It is a guide to general project management, and as such it deals with the norms, methods, processes, practices and knowledge that are relevant to the field of project management.

The PMBOK® Guide is revised periodically, and the current edition of the Guide, the 5th edition, was first published in 2013.
